Sort the Court! places the player on the throne of a growing kingdom where almost every problem must be settled with just two answers: yes or no. Citizens, animals, merchants, adventurers, monsters, and other unusual visitors enter the court one after another with requests or proposals. A decision might help someone immediately, cost the treasury, attract new residents, or start a chain of events that returns much later. The objective is to keep the kingdom developing while dealing with the consequences of earlier rulings.
Three Numbers Shape the Kingdom
Population, happiness, and gold show how the realm is doing. Approving an expensive project may reduce gold while improving happiness or creating opportunities for future income. Refusing can preserve money but disappoint citizens. Some visitors offer unpredictable deals as well, so the apparently generous choice is not automatically the safest one. The game regularly forces the ruler to decide which resource is most important at that moment.
Visitors Remember Your Decisions
Characters can return after earlier meetings, and previous answers may influence what they ask for next. Helping someone can open another event later, while rejecting a proposal may end or change that particular storyline. The court therefore develops into several overlapping stories rather than a collection of completely independent questions.
During a reign, decisions can involve:
· funding projects or businesses;
· allowing characters to begin adventures;
· accepting risky magical offers;
· spending gold to solve problems;
· deciding whether unusual visitors can proceed with their plans;
· balancing immediate rewards against later consequences.
The kingdom also grows visually and narratively as population increases. New situations become available, recurring visitors continue their personal stories, and larger political matters eventually appear. One important long-term storyline concerns the Council of Crowns, an alliance of rulers. After the kingdom becomes sufficiently established, the Royal Advisor introduces the possibility of joining it, leading to meetings with representatives from other kingdoms.
Building a Successful Reign
Joining the Council of Crowns provides one major completion point, although the kingdom can continue afterward and unfinished character stories can still be followed. Sort the Court! does not rely on combat, construction menus, or complex economic controls. Its strategy comes from reading each request, remembering earlier interactions, and predicting what a simple yes or no might do to population, happiness, and gold. Because characters and consequences return over time, even small decisions can gradually shape a very different kingdom.
